| The 17 is a new theatre production based around the end of Boris Yeltsin's presidency in 1990s Moscow. Broadly the concept is to provide an open forum so that we can directly integrate peoples' experiences, feelings or impressions of Russia into the creative process. We aim to create an environment where these can not only be read and commented on but used as material to help build a digital space for the play. For a country so frequently mythologised and demonised in the popular consciousness this form of discussion seems a useful tool for expanding on ideas, challenging preconceptions and opening up our own work to scrutiny. From set design, to play text, to the production team itself, nothing is sacred. |
